OLYMPIC LEGACY (DOCUMENTARY):
OLYMPIC LEGACY is the story of “the divided city,” Rio de Janeiro, as it prepares to host the 2016 Olympics. The documentary follows favela residents in their struggle to retain the communities that they built with their own hands more than 50 years ago, in light of a changing city that may or may not incorporate them as it swiftly moves forward in urban development. (35 minutes)

HOLLYWOOD’S AFRICAN-AMERICAN FILM RENAISSANCE: This year’s critically acclaimed films take audiences from places like slave plantations in the antebellum South, to packed Ebbets Field as Jackie Robinson steps up to bat, and to inner-city public housing on a scorching summer day. While set in various eras and depicting diverse stories, many of the films on the short list for the 2013 awards season show an emerging trend; Hollywood is making movies about the black experience in America.
THE IRAN JOB: When American basketball player Kevin Sheppard moved to Iran in 2009, he was greeted by elaborate graffiti that read “Down with the USA” and “America is the Devil.” Similar rhetoric came from the United States, with the government decrying a nuclear weapons program from the country that was part of the “Axis of Evil.” It was in this tense political climate that the point guard from the Virgin Islands accepted a job with the Iranian Super League to carry his team to the playoffs.
