Jane Caffrey’s work in journalism has led her to diverse places around the world. She has conducted interviews with movie stars on red carpets, been up in the news chopper to cover fires, assisted with an exclusive interview with Portugal’s Prime Minister, and filmed forced evictions in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

For three years Jane produced for CNN’s Entertainment Unit, conducting interviews with A-list stars and covering New York City and Los Angeles’ top entertainment events. She asked Robert De Niro to clarify his controversial joke about Michelle Obama before the 2012 election, spoke with Janet Jackson about twiggy models and women’s body image, and discovered what music legends Elton John and James Taylor think about singing competition shows. In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, Jane asked Quentin TarantinoJamie Foxx, and Sylvester Stallone—known for their violent movies—about Hollywood’s influence on America’s gun culture. She started at CNN with the Special Investigations & Documentaries Unit.

Jane also gained international journalism experience with TV Globo, Brazil’s largest television network. She worked at the Globo headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, as well as at the bureaus in Portugal, Washington D.C., and New York, where she joined correspondents for for coverage of the Portuguese Prime Minister Elections, Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration, and Osama Bin Laden’s assassination.

Other freelance experiences include working for NBC Universal during the 2008 Republican National Convention, and assisting an ESPN reporter with live shots and locker room interviews at an NFL football game. Jane also made a living as a freelance features writer for various magazines while living in Madrid, Spain. She first cut her teeth in the newsroom while interning for KSTP in Minneapolis.

Jane holds a M.A. in News and Documentary from New York University. For her capstone project, she independently shot, produced, and edited Olympic Legacy, a 40 minute documentary that examines Rio de Janeiro’s changing urban landscape and forced eviction’s in the city’s slums prior to the 2016 Olympics. She also has a B.A. in Latin American Studies and Spanish from Carleton College, where she was editor-in-chief of the independent student newspaper, The Carletonian.
